Heart Valve Disease Assessment in Essex and London

Dr Richard Jones specialises in the diagnosis and monitoring of heart valve disease, including aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. He provides rapid access to assessment and imaging of murmurs and valve disease in Essex and London.

What is heart valve disease?

Heart valve disease occurs when one or more of the heart valves do not open or close properly. This can affect blood flow through the heart and place additional strain on the heart muscle.

 Common types include:

  • Valve stenosis (narrowing of the valve)

  • Valve regurgitation (leakage of the valve)

The most commonly affected valves are the aortic and mitral valves.

What is a heart murmur?

A heart murmur is an extra sound heard during a heartbeat, often detected during a clinical examination. While many murmurs are harmless, some may indicate underlying valve disease and require further investigation.

Symptoms of valve disease:

  • Breathlessness

  • Fatigue

  • Chest discomfort

  • Dizziness or blackouts

Rapid access to advanced imaging expertise

Using simple transthoracic echocardiography Dr Jones can typically:

  • Accurately assess valve severity

  • Monitor progression

  • Guide timing of intervention.

At times, more advanced cardiac imaging is needed, including stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, or cardiac MRI scans.

Why chose Dr Jones:

  • Consultant-led care with specialist expertise in imaging of heart valve disease

  • Rapid access to echocardiography and advanced imaging

  • Seamless referral pathways
